HEAVENLY HEAD PILLOWS

Kapok Pillows
Heavenly Kapok Pillows

At last a pillow that is soft yet supportive that is a wonderful lightweight alternative to toxic synthetics. Naturally organic Kapok is also malleable and able to be shaped to the contours of your head. Your pillow will return to its shape simply by being puffed up. Kapok is the most environmentally friendly, economical, fair trade natural fiber fill for pillows, bolsters, cushions, doonas and mattresses.

Kapok fiber is moisture resistant and it does not mould. It has its own anti-bacterial properties given by nature which gives Kapok its hypo-allergenic status. Kapok is firmer than sponge yet soft because of its hollow fibers.

Slight compaction will occur over time but Kapok will ‘Fluff up’ by being placed in direct sunlight. Fortnightly is preferable but not critical. Heavenly Head Pillows may also be washed in a front loading washing machine using wool wash or organic liquid soap then dried by placing in dryer with a couple of tennis balls. The drying process must be thorough. Care instructions on label.

NATURALLY ORGANIC KAPOK from the highlands of Central West TIMOR. The products from this project are a collaboration between the villagers who hand harvest and clean the kapok and town based sewers. It is a sustainable, low impact, capacity building industry for local people. Products include Head Pillows, Yoga, Pregnancy / Sleeping Bolsters, Zafu-Crescent Moon/Breast Feeding Cushions, Zabutons, Chair / Lounge/Meditation Cushions, Neck & Lumbar Rolls, Baby belly rolls, Futon, Shiatsu Massage / Meditation / Yoga Mats, Dutch Wives / Sailors Comforts. And coming soon DOONAS.

Pillows of Kapok have been handed down between generations in Asian countries where it has been used as fill for mattress, bolsters and pillows for centuries. With correct care yours will last decades (I am unsure how many years it will last if placed in a dryer instead of in direct sunshine).

Kapok, a pale silky fibre, is almost magical. It is soft, smooth, hygienic, non-toxic, hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly. It is breathable, allows air circulation and has healthful benefits. It can be reused for generations, without developing mould or decaying. Kapok, Ceiba pentandra (Bombacaceae), is a tree as tall as 150ft in its native environment. The fibre itself comes from the seed pod of the majestic kapok tree. Much of the world´s kapok is wild harvested by locals therefore chemicals are not needed nor is the ground tilled in order to harvest its bounty, this helps keep the forest alive and healthy and provides sustainable jobs within the forests..
